Job Profile Summary

Role Synopsis

Reliability will play a key role in ensuring that bp peforms whilst it transforms. A highly reliable and profitable production entity enables bp to transition and increase its portfolio of products and become an International Energy Company. The Reliability Engineers (RE) serve as the primary point of contact for reliability strategy, long term engineering evaluations and reliability programme implementation with the primary goal of ensuring asset availability and optimizing life cycle costs. The RE will work closely with Maintenance, Engineering and Operations personnel for long term reliability issues. They may also be deployed for specific intervention activity to identify reliability issues and develop improvement plans.

The RE will also collaborate with the Maintenance team to gain inputs into the long-term reliability plan and to incorporate key reliability objectives into routine maintenance work. The RE will work with bp Solutions to solve asset reliability issues with the Discipline Engineers and Subject Matter Experts (SME’s).

Key Accountabilities

Asset Reliability
• Leads or supports key activities of the reliability program (facilitation of RCFA (Root Cause Failure Analysis), VAA (Vulnerability Analysis & Assessment) and Equipment class reliability analysis that leads to the optimization of the maintenance build.
• Provides insights on equipment availability perspective and an equipment reliability strategy. This includes documenting problematic equipment and providing input into the maintenance, operations, and outage/turnaround strategies.
• Responsible for analysing data and providing input and context to operational and maintenance activities.
• Support the overall life cycle cost of the asset to meet business strategies by advising on yearly budgets (including TAR, CAPEX, Maintenance routine Expenditure and Major Mechanical) based upon knowledge of the inspection, unit reliability plans, and the PM requirements.
• Provides “Area Influence” (ownership and direction) related to discipline engineering for TARs.
• Identifies reliability/availability improvement type projects and develops initial justification, incentives and business value to support the funding request.
• Expected to play a leading role in the reliability mentoring and development of asset staff and advocate for a reliability perspective in asset decisions.

Essential Education:
• Bachelor of Engineering in a relevant engineering discipline
• PE and or CRMP desirable but not required

Essential Experience and Job Requirements:
• Significant experience in Maintenance & Reliability roles.
• Solid understanding of reliability fundamentals.

Root Cause Failure Analysis
• Vulnerability Assessments
• Weibull and CROW-AAMSAA analysis
• Modern online and offline equipment surveillance practices

Maintenance Strategies and optimization of said strategies
• Excellent people skills with experience in facilitation of workshops.
• Strong influencing skills with experience of engaging with Senior Leadership.
• Excellent skills in data analysis and a natural curiosity and ability to challenge the norm.

Desirable criteria

Ideally the candidate is an experienced reliability professional, not necessarily within oil and gas application. Experience in Defect Elimination and delivery of significant reliability improvement would a be helpful. Proactive, self starting and experience in Agile working (scrum, kanbanise, kaizen, lean, 5S) and with a growth midset would be of benefit.

Basic Function

This position supports the Bayport Polymers plant in Pasadena, Texas. The role is part of the Reliability Group supporting plant operation and reliability improvement efforts.

Working in a team environment, it carries responsibility for implementing reliability best practices, developing and optimizing preventive maintenance tasks, and supporting maintenance and turnaround activities.

The position interacts with other technical groups on site (process engineering, maintenance, and capital project groups), corporate technical networks and peers, and vendors / suppliers as needed to resolve problems and improve plant reliability and performance.

Roles & Responsibilities
• Monitor equipment performance and make improvement recommendations
• Apply data analysis techniques to develop engineering solutions to repetitive failures and other problems that adversely affect plant operations including capacity, quality, cost, safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance issues
• Serve as a resource and conduit to share best practices and leverage operating improvement opportunities across the site and company

Min. Qualifications
• BS degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 6 years relevant experience in maintaining and improving reliability of rotating equipment in the refining, petrochemical, chemical process, or power generation industries is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal leadership skills are critical due to the requirement for effective communication of complex issues across the organization as well as for mentoring and consensus building.
• The successful candidate must exhibit an understanding of business drivers, management of change requirements, reliability processes, and maintenance workflow.
• The individual must have or develop proficiency in the following areas : Basic understanding of industry codes and standards (i.e. ASME, API, ANSI)
• Rotating Equipment (pumps, steam turbines, centrifugal and recip compressors, blowers, gearboxes)
• Fixed Equipment (piping, flange make-up, pressure vessels, heat exchangers)
