The Salesforce Design Operations team is looking for a self-starting, organized, and experienced Senior/Lead Design Program Manager (DPM) to support our partner, Experience Design. Working hand-in-hand with Experience Design is the Salesforce Design Operations team, a talented group of professionals that help make design happen at scale. Experience Design’s mission is to deliver human-centered solutions for our most strategic customers by delivering customer success and maximizing impact; the Design Operations supports these cross-functional teams to achieve the highest levels of delivery and operational success. Design Operations is growing, and we are looking for you. Will you join us?

This person will partner with team members, from executive leadership to individual contributors, across our design organization to bolster delivery practices, report on engagements, align teams around the highest impact design work, and influence the skilling up and capacity planning of the team. Within the design team itself, this role will create the best practices and processes to expand on a high-spirited design community and advance their craft. This includes optimizing the design team’s processes, from a focus on delivery to executing on strategy and vision, and how design can improve and impact the success of our customers. This role requires someone who is a relationship builder and an operational thinker; someone who is fluent in the best practices of design teams focused on software delivery, and who wants to empower the Experience Design team in a sustainable and healthy way.

Responsibilities

How will you do this? As Senior/Lead Design Program Manager (DPM), you’ll keep your finger on the pulse of the Experience Design team’s delivery practices: project workflows, project design health, and supporting designer allocation. You’ll partner with leaders across Experience Design to help us navigate competing priorities and allocate our designers to the right projects. This DPM will be focused on building out new processes for supporting the Experience Design team – including a deep look at our skills, experience, and expertise. The role will support professional services functions, team members’ compliance, and work with CSG Operations to ensure we have the right people and capabilities aligned to the types of forecasted and existing engagements. You’ll be integral to bridging commonalities, insights, and resources between our client facing efforts and Salesforce product design teams.

As an embedded partner with the Experience Design team, you will employ design-thinking to create and iterate upon best practices and processes to advance the quality of delivery. You will identify gaps for this growing, global team, and seek out partners inside and outside Design Operations to bring delivery excellence improvements to our designers. You’ll stay connected with our internal reports and dashboards to monitor utilization, delivery status, dependencies, and priorities impacting our designers. You will contribute to the Experience Design knowledge repository and evangelize standards in design tools and assets management.

Finally (and most importantly), you’ll be a member of our Design Operations team, a highly visible role that requires confidence, motivation, resourcefulness, and grace.

Requirements
• Outstanding partnership, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills. The ability to collaborate well in a cross-functional environment, and work across multiple capabilities and disciplines.
• Superb communication skills that shine in-person and across multiple mediums. The talent to tell a story, advocate for a project or program, and facilitate understanding to different audiences at whichever level is appropriate.
• Thorough familiarity with how design gets done. Understand what happens when and why, what role dependencies exist, and how to mitigate risks.
• Ability to perform design thinking practices and familiar with the principles of Salesforce Relationship Design.
• Experience with key experience design activities throughout a project’s lifecycle including research, workshops, conducting interviews and synthesizing, preparation of design work for collaboration with functional and technical counterparts, and developing an experience vision.
• Multi-task and perform well in a constantly evolving environment with key stakeholders and teams.
• Ability to learn and master internal project management tools to ensure design work is properly represented and tracked, and contribute new tools and processes to make work more visible to the entire organization.
Desired Experience and Skills
• Bachelor’s Degree, PMP certification, and/or at least 5 years experience working in the world of enterprise software.
• Ability to establish credibility and rapport with senior executives, and design and non-design team members.
• An internal compass that points towards ethics and equality, and the conviction to speak up if we stray off-course.
• Demonstrated ability to influence peers and managers, and build consensus while dealing with ambiguity.
• Experience advocating for data, user research, and analytics to make recommendations and iterate on the product.
• Experience running events and programs for internal teams, external customers, or both at the same time!
• In the face of ambiguity, you have the confidence to make your own way.
