Lead Applied Data Scientist – Deep Learning/Computer Vision at Rewire Neuro

Location: Portland

Rewire Neuro is recruiting a Lead Applied Data Scientist – Deep Learning/Computer Vision to lead ongoing development of our computer vision software for biomedical image analysis. Rewire Neuro is a Portland, OR based startup in the biotechnology sector focused on transforming microscopy research with a machine learning enabled image analysis platform used by scientists all over the world. We utilize ML to dramatically reduce human error and analysis time for critical scientific research in both the public and private sectors. With customers ranging from university research scientists to biotechnology companies studying the brain, cancer, reproductive health, and more, we are poised to be an emerging name in this sector.

This position is hybrid and includes periodic in-person meetings with the rest of the Rewire team in our downtown Portland office (1-2 days per week). Current Oregon residents or individuals willing to relocate to the state are strongly preferred. Salary range $70k-100k DOE, + benefits and stock options.

Education:
BS in math, computer science, engineering, or similar. Strong mathematics and coding (python) background is required.

Advanced degree in machine learning preferred.

Experience & Skills:
Strong background in Python

Strong understanding of machine learning theory and familiarity with deep learning and computer vision

Strong leadership and mentorship skills

Respect for and ability to work well with individuals from diverse backgrounds

Self-driven and innovative thinker, ready to adjust to the rapidly changing needs of a growing startup

Motivated and professional, effective with verbal and written communication

Curiosity and willingness to learn about the product and client needs

Excellent record-keeping and experimental planning skills

Preferred: an interest or experience in science and medicine and/or biotechnology

In this role, you will be responsible for working with the current ML team to:
Build machine learning solutions for a wide variety of clients and data

Combine creative thinking and cutting-edge technological industry knowledge to propose and implement novel solutions to solve new issues and tasks posed by clients

Develop custom data pre- and post-processing pipelines as per client (public and private sector) specifications, providing clients with meaningful data.

Validate methods through A/B testing

Stay up to date with latest innovations in the computer vision field

Mentor junior employees

Analyze datasets for errors and optimize model performance on small datasets.

Communicate with clients in an effective and professional manner.

Collaborate with all aspects of a small but rapidly growing company

Work predominantly remotely and occasionally in person with a small team, utilizing a variety of virtual office tools, such as Zoom, Slack, Clickup, Google Drive, and others.

Strong teamwork and independent work skills are required, as most of the work is done remotely. This is a full-time role with medical and retirement benefits, paid vacation, and stock options.
