Manager, Cloud Architecture at Pierce Technology Corp

Contributes to and supports the corporate Enterprise Cloud strategy, standards and best practices associated with all aspects Cloud offerings

The Research Information Science & Computing (RISC) group of Mass General Brigham plays a critical role in accelerating the digital transformation of healthcare research. To better enable researchers and clinicians, we are building Azure cloud repositories, tools, and new data workflows optimized for data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence.
As a pioneer of Azure adoption within Mass General Brigham, the RISC Cloud Data Solutions team is in the forefront of the technology acceleration and setting the standards for the research within the organization. We are looking for established and innovative Cloud Azure Architect who can utilize a wide array of modern codebase and cloud services to architect and build cloud-based solutions that are slated for continuous improvements in functionality, infrastructure, and operations of our Azure-based products. The role is a hands-on technical position to lead agile development of Azure Data Enclave, Patient Data Science Repository, and other cloud-based solutions.
The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, highly qualified individual who possesses solid understanding and working knowledge of cloud computing fundamentals, options and limitations, design principles, methodology and standards in delivery, monitoring and support. Understanding of complex data relationships and business requirements with extensive experience using Microsoft Azure and SQL Server is necessary to perform design of complex data solutions. Central to the role will be leading a small team of technical resources coordinating the development activities. The candidate can demonstrate a great attention to detail, feels comfortable working both independently and leading a small technical team, and can quickly get up to speed on a complex cloud solutions and data infrastructure.
This position will report to the RISC Cloud Data Solutions Assistant Director. She/he will also be working closely with other developers, analysts and research-based teams around the enterprise.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
• Architect data workflows ensuring proper database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures within cloud environment
• Design and implement cloud solutions that are cost-effective, scalable, and provide the stability and security requested by the stakeholders.
• Create integration strategies and methods, which improve system performance, monitoring, and future scalability and high availability
• Organize activities to diagnose and resolve ETL, Databricks Cluster and database performance issues
• Lead the activities to create and maintain automated solutions spanning the code management, build, package, deploy and delivery functions of DevOps.
• Establish and manage the day-to-day usage and provisioning of cloud and hybrid resources based on the project needs
• Oversee the maintenance and improvement of the CI/CD and automated testing pipelines.
• Provide solutions for update, deployment, and monitoring of the systems developed by the team, passionately looking for opportunities to improve performance, reliability, and automation
• Identify, evaluate, recommend, and implement new tools, methodologies and processes for performance and cost optimization
• Interface with RISC leadership, managers, and IT colleagues to provide clear and concise work status, delivery schedule and raise awareness as appropriate
• Follow processes to ensure HIPPA and institutional compliance in all aspects of the work
• Manage day-to day development activities of the DevOps and Data Engineers technical team
• Participate in the daily project standups, offering guidance on technical tasks and providing decisions on technical issues
• Motivate and inspire the team by promoting positive communication, encouraging participation of all team members, and demonstrating flexibility
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in computer science or a healthcare related informatics field
• 7+ years of practical hands-on experience with architecting, development, and implementation of large-scale enterprise-level solutions, including could-based solutions
• Solid knowledge of cloud foundation principles and standards; ideally, hands-on working experience with Microsoft Azure products & solutions
• Proven experience with data warehousing and supporting business intelligence initiatives using enterprise-class RDBMS, preferably MS SQL Server, particularly focused in Star Schema Data Modelling
• Experience with key DevOps technologies in Azure, including Hybrid, Serverless, IaaS, Automation, and tools for CI/CD services.
• Strong programming skills, knowledge of programming languages, such as SQL, Python, working knowledge of DataBricks and/or Snowflake
• Wide-ranging experience in deploying, debugging, and managing systems in cloud environments such as Azure
• Strong experience with highly scalable and distributed databases and the key issues affecting their performance and reliability
• Preferred experience working with data/Big Data for healthcare including genomics, imaging and EHR
• Successful track record of delivering results on scope, on time, on budget
• Thorough Security and Data Governance experience and skills
• Knowledge of HIPPA and privacy regulations regarding patient data security and/or research related practices is a plus
Skills/Competencies
• Ability to design, implement, and manage complex data science platforms in the cloud
