Reality Labs focuses on delivering Meta’s vision through Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR). The compute performance and power efficiency requirements of Virtual and Augmented Reality require custom silicon. Meta Silicon team is driving the state-of-the-art forward with breakthrough work in computer vision, machine learning, mixed reality, graphics, displays, sensors, and new ways to map the human body. Our chips will enable AR & VR devices where our real and virtual world will mix and match throughout the day. We believe the only way to achieve our goals is to look at the entire stack, from transistor, through architecture, to firmware, and algorithms.As part of the AR Silicon Architecture team, this position focuses on one or more aspects of chip architecture in the areas of CPU, GPU, interconnect, IO subsystems, Compression, DRAM controllers, and Security. Deep background in development of one or more of the above areas from architecture, microarchitecture, design, and verification is important. The candidate will drive the future of FB custom silicon in the AR/VR space for targeted perf/watt optimization in custom domain use cases. The ideal candidate for this role will have an excellent grasp on SoC architecture, experience with thermally constrained performance optimization on mobile devices, comfortable in operating in a cross-functional environment, and a hands-on approach to problem-solving.This is a full-time position based at our offices in either Redmond, Washington or Menlo Park, California.

AR Silicon Architect Responsibilities:
• Architecture definition and specification of a chip subsystem or entire SoC.
• Work across disciplines, brainstorm big ideas, work in new technology areas, juggle/coordinate multiple initiatives, drive a concept into a prototype and ultimately guide the transition into a high-volume consumer product.
• Drive architectural/design studies including selecting ASIC technologies, FPGA ASIC emulation, and other system topics such as interface approaches, etc.
• Work cross-functionally with SW, FW, Modeling, and development teams.
• Travel both domestically and internationally.
• Works effectively as an individual and in a multidisciplinary international team.

Minimum Qualifications:
• 10+ years of experience as a Silicon Architect and Digital Design Engineer for production silicon.
• Experience in evaluating trade-offs such as speed, performance, power, area.
• Experience in employing scientific methods to debug, diagnose and drive the resolution of cross-disciplinary system issues.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

We are looking for multiple positions on Depth Sensor Engineer and image sensor engineer who will partner with a team of engineers covering the complete CMOS 3D depth sensor, photographic and machine perception imaging lifecycle. This individual will drive sensor requirements definition, selection and integration of leading-edge depth sensors into our product depth modules. Their work scope will span Off the Shelf (OTS) image sensors, semi-custom sensors, fully custom sensors, and advanced sensor technologies.

Depth/Image Sensor Engineer Responsibilities:
• Translate system requirements to sensor specifications, identify optimal solutions (OTS or customized sensor) for next generation AR/VR products.
• Lead and collaborate with application processor engineer, computer vision scientists, depth/image system team (module/optical/illumination/architects/EE and FW) to develop next generation sensor technologies and to integrate it flawlessly into the final product.
• Work with sensor vendors to align and influence their product and R&D roadmap.

Minimum Qualifications:

In this role, you’ll be a foundational member on the leadership team, working together with your product partners in engineering, data science, UX research, content design, and other disciplines to define the strategy, operations, and communications that guide the team to build great products addressing real user needs.The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in AR and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, iterative, semi-structured environment is critical. This person must be comfortable guiding teams, freelancers, agencies, and production partners, but should be willing to roll up the sleeves to do the design work itself.

Product Design Director, AR Design Responsibilities:
• Build and manage a talented, diverse, inclusive team of product designers and leaders that consistently delivers cutting edge products and is well-balanced across a range of design skill sets.
• Drive collaboration and vision across the company to build alignment on priorities leading to product design and execution.
• Shape the product roadmap, both short term and long-term.
• Develop design talent and build a thriving culture where designers grow in their careers and feel a strong sense of inclusion and belonging.
• Design and scale the organization and equip the team for success in their goals.
• Foster a strong, collaborative design practice.

Minimum Qualifications:
• 6+ years of experience in design with the AR space.
• 6+ years of leadership experience with direct reports under your guidance and leadership, including hiring and developing senior managers and individual contributors.
• 6+ years of experience working collaboratively with product, engineering, design, content and user research teams.
• Senior people management, team development, recruiting and org building experience.
• Experience growing a strategic design practice within design teams.

Depth Sensing Tech Lead at Meta Inc

The Cameras & Depth (C&D) team gathers world class expertise and talent in photographic and machine vision cameras, imaging sensors, and depth, inertial, and bio sensing systems, and owns the development and validation for all these sensing systems across the whole AR, VR, & Portal product portfolios.As a tech lead for technology incubation on the depth architecture team, you will own and drive next-generation technologies from initial concept, early system prototyping, and experiential validation. A successful candidate will have a passion for exploring and defining innovative designs at the forefront of custom sensing technology, to enable breakthrough new 3D sensing architectures delivering the best-in-class performance in small form factors and ultra-low power systems. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about exploring and tackling challenges associated with chipset architecture and integration, adding clarity to sometimes ambiguous technical problems, is engaged in deep collaboration across internal and external teams of passionate technologists that result in detailed depth sensor analyses, critical tradeoff evaluations, and sensor architectural execution strategies.The scope of this role in the depth sensing architecture team will focus on researching, creating, specifying, and developing depth sensing technology to achieve high-end performance in very constrained area and power efficiency requirements in the AR and VR space.

Depth Sensing Tech Lead Responsibilities:
• Own and lead next-generation technologies from initial concept, early system prototyping, and experiential validation
• Explore, propose, and create innovative high-performance depth system architecture proposals within stringent area and power efficiency constraints, targeting Meta’s leading-edge AR and VR devices
• Carry out systems design and modeling to meet system requirements
• Run simulations to predict system performance and power, and validate system tradeoffs
• Lead the drafting of SOWs, selection of strategic prototyping partners with a path toward productization, and consult and participate in small-scale prototype builds for internal proof of experience testing and validation
• Draft and own detailed specification documentation for internal and external partners
• Lead and participate in deep technical weekly reviews with key external design partners, from top level architecture, critical blocks, functional models, and low level implementation
• Collaborate with internal and external partners to prototype and validate the designs towards size, weight, cost, and performance targets
• Travel both domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time

Minimum Qualifications:
• BS in Electrical, Computer Engineering or related experience
• 6+ years of experience engineering consumer products (concept through mass production)
• Experience working with camera systems or sub-systems
• Experience with critical depth system requirements, from core architecture through to individual components
• Experience in circuit simulation and modeling
• Experience in at least one of the following areas in depth sensing: (1) laser drivers & VCSEL definition/interaction, (2) image sensor architectures, (3) depth module HW design & system integration

Preferred Qualifications:
• 3+ years of experience with high speed laser drivers for time of flight and other active depth sensing systems
• Deep understanding of mixed-signal building blocks (ADCs, DACs, output drivers)
• Basic understanding of illumination sources such as VCSELs, LEDs, and/or edge emitting lasers plus interaction with system and RX/TX components
• Experience in designing, modeling, prototyping, characterization of critical optical components and sub-system for depth sensing applications
• Experience transferring technology from research into a shipping product
